hello again :) Here’s a bit more about me…

One of the biggest health breakthroughs I experienced occurred when I finally understood how food affects our innate insulin secretion. Besides holding on to an extra 30 pounds that I could not seem to get rid of (all while counting calories and doing a lot of exercise),  I suffered intense brain fog and lack of energy.  

Learning to modulate my insulin response to food by eating what was right (which, for me, happens to be “low carb”) was life changing.  My energy skyrocketed, I had mental clarity, and the extra pounds melted off of me. I learned that what I had been suffering from was hyperinsulinemia; if I hadn’t done anything about it in my 20’s, I would likely have been facing prediabetes or worse at this stage in my midlife. 

I know first hand that making necessary diet and lifestyle changes isn’t easy. I was addicted to sugar and processed carbohydrates. But I found a way to release the choke hold these foods had on me, without feeling like I have to go without all the time.

Science has made it clear that insulin resistance is the foundation of most chronic illnesses, as well as everyday complaints such as excess weight, brain fog, low energy, poor mood, etc..  Insulin resistance is even becoming more widely studied and recognized as a contributing factor in mental illness.  Unfortunately, the medical system is still treating the later stages of insulin resistance in the form of the chronic illness such as Type II Diabetes, Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease and Dementia.  

I feel that we should instead be focusing on the powerful healing benefits of whole foods, adequate protein (which is way more than you think!) lowering or elimination of processed carbohydrate and seed oils, time restricted eating / fasting protocols, and supplements when needed.
